Whoa, so complicated and so much waiting!!!!
Over here in the real tropics (Singapore that is), if we stepped on them 
nasty sea urchins, we bash our tissues (with fist or piece of wood) to 
break up them spines. They never emerge outa the wounds even for weeks so 
any waiting will cause great distress waiting for the next dive.
