It's Christmas coming; my wife's cheap Sears sewing machine is in the
shop (and only after light usage), and I wouldn't mind having another
camera (Leica, Nikon Rf, ?)

So - she deserves to get a really high quality basic machine.

Yep, Bernina.  High quality and price with expensive accessories.  Just
ask my wife!  However, most of  the  newer models have lots of digital
controls, but they still may have an analog model.
