The Kodak technical bulletin is very informative. Apparently if you request a hand inspection of photosensitive material US inspectors have to comply according to FAA regulations. I know a couple people who had their film devastated by the baggage CAT scanners.
After reading all the literature I could find on airport scanners, including the NAPM and FAA's extensive testing, I am still not convinced. While obvious fogging effects aren't apparent, there seems to be an effect on grain in B&W films. Yesterday I developed two rolls of film in the same tank and I noticed after scanning one roll that the grain was different then what I'm used to, but I didn't give it a second thought until I scanned a second roll and the grain was noticeably different, smoother. The only difference between the chunky grain and smooth grain was the plastic canisters compared to the metal canister. I have two more sets like this to develop so I should be able to tell if there really is a difference or if I've been sniffing Metol too long. :>)
