I usta field produce medical pieces for CNN, and some for the New
Orleans (then ABC) affiliate.  One of the hardest chores in that job
is to get doctors to plain-speak.  They always want to do a medical
lecture when they get on camera.

But you are right, as a show producer, it is far more economical to recut
VNR handouts with local footage, using the soundbites from expert Doc at
Pompandcircumstance University Hospital and then send your own
reporters out for frog-jumping and stuff people want to see.
