The figures in the frame and the background form a cascade. The DOF is telling the viewer, as the out of focus girls call attention to the kid who is in sharp focus, that three moods are on display that complement each other. The four friends are comfortable with each other. The girl with the camera is photographing the photographer. The relationship extends beyond the frame, therefore five individuals are involved. The color of the hair and jeans of the kids are the common threads that unite them and their lifestyle. It is an idyl during suspended time. The viewer knows this.
