While the quality and taste of the food is still predictable, cleanliness and service have gone to hell, which is one reason why McDs is in trouble. The all-fat menu hasn't helped either, although the new salads are actually pretty good. B. Steve, In defense of McDonalds, as one who has used a party line and driven a car with fins (59 Impala), in the 60's the arches were a welcome sight after eight or ten hours on the road. Clean bathroom, hot coffee, quick service. McDonald's became dominate because they filled a need for a lot of people. I remember all too well my first grilled cheese sandwich with coleslaw on it outside Oklahoma City in a little diner. It was not exactly what I was expecting. McDonalds offered a reliable offering when the country had not become so homogenized. As an aside, as a Jr old fart, I now look out for the old diners with their quirky food and sometimes bizarre help. But then I'm not driving ten hours to spend six with a girlfriend anymore.
