The left side is closer. Observe that the bricks appear larger on the left
than the right -- thus closer to the camera -- assuming that the same size
bricks are used on both sides.

Those who thought that the left side of the picture was closer to the camera were right. I find that the optical illusion that makes the right side appear closer 
is strongest when viewing the bottom half of the image. Thanks for looking.
