Hi Mike,

     Those fins on American cars were embryoidic shadows
in '54, the Leica M3's first year.  '55 was the height expansion
year, full growth in '56 and '57.  Death in the '60.  The M3
lived on 'til M4.

      Interesingly, the M series is now way longer timewise than
the Leica screwmount history.
