I have blown mine off many times and have had to resort to Clearsight and a cotton bud after an enterprising student stuck a finger on the pellicle. I would keep contact to a minimum as it is CLA price to replace the pellicle. As I noted in an earlier, the light loss was about 1/3 of a stop. I never found it objectionable even in low light. The eye can adapt very quickly to changing light levels. As I think more about it, it seems to me the pellicle mirror would make great sense for a digital SLR. Properly designed the pellicle mirror (since it does not move) could be used to seal the sensor chip from dust when a lens change is made. With the ever increasing sensitivity of chips the light loss should have almost no effect on on performance. Also the latest coating methods such as those used by Swarovski in its latest binoculars should give the pellicle mirror better transmission than the methods Canon used 15 or so years ago.
