In this, a small incision is made above the pupil, a little gizmo is inserted into the lens, and it is broken up with high frequency sound waves (phacoemulsification), then a new lens is popped in place. Laser surgery in the eye is most often use for diabetic effects on the retina - in the back of the eye. Also used for some postop cleanup of scar tissue if it forms after cataract surgery. Lasik is surgery on the cornea, way out in the front of the eye.
