Subject: [Leica] Transition, Transposition or Tradition
From: Afterswift@aol.com

Rather, we are in a period of
transition in photography in which the main mode of image capture shifts
from film/chemical to electronic/digital, just as transitions from one
capture media to another occurred in earlier ages. Film will certainly
be around for a long time to come, but it will be less and less relevant
to a larger and larger percentage of photo hobbyists and pros. That
doesn't mean film isn't good, it just means that the end of an era is
upon us. ;-) --B. D.

BD,

I think the jury's still out on this one. The jury isn't the pro or the
semi-pro or the advanced amateur or the art photographer. The jury isn't us. It's
the consumers of the world. What they buy remains in the market. What they shun
or put away in their bureau drawer or dusty closets becomes an artifact. To
put it more plainly, the camera they instinctively grab to take those birthday
shots and vacation images is the camera technology, roughhew it as they may,
is the technology to which WE must eventually return.

So, what we think in our heart of hearts makes no difference. How much soul
searching or chatting we do on the Leica list will make no difference.

The development I like in LUG now that transcends all other issues is that
we're showing our work to each other on a routine basis. That extra quality that
Leica bodies and lenses lend to those images gives us our common bond and
makes LUG LUG.

Gotta leave it at that.
