Media crippled by court ruling, lawyer says 'Public interest in story
outweighs privacy issues,' he says, adding ridiculous cases are popping up.

A controversial 1998 Supreme Court ruling on privacy issues is crippling the
ability of photojournalists to record news events and must be revisited, a
prominent media lawyer contends.

Lawyer Mark Bantey said yesterday the ruling, which applies to Quebec but
whose impact is likely to be felt soon in courts across the country, has
created "almost a cottage industry" of lawsuits against news
