Well Stop Down works just fine also, I used mine that way for a while. I
decided that since the cost was only $65/lens (about 15 years ago) I would
get them updated.

Why not have the single cam lens updated to a 3 cam lens then you have full
compatibility? I did this with my single cam lenses when I got my R4SP and
they work just great with full metering capability. The cost, here in the
US was minimal.
