Why not have the single cam lens updated to a 3 cam lens then you have full
compatibility? I did this with my single cam lenses when I got my R4SP and
they work just great with full metering capability. The cost, here in the
US was minimal.

While we're talking of 50mm lenses, I have an SL that came with a single
cam
50mm Summicron. I also have a R4S. Obviously the metering doesn't couple if
I put the 50mm on the R4S, but can I meter by using the DOF lever to stop
down the single cam lens?
I realise that the answer is 'try it', but at the moment the R4S is here in
the UK and the SL and lens are in France.
