It apparently had been there quite some time, as the leather band had rotted away, leaving the band's buckle next to the watch. I picked it up and gave it a shake - is was a self-winding mechanical model - and lo and behold, it started ticking. I replaced the band and used it for several years until I too lost it. It was gold color, with a Spidel Twist-O-Flex band, in case anyone visits Alska in the next few years and happens to find it...
