Hi all you 'Photo Chemistry' Types !
And I mean those who care about the molecular structure of Ascorbate
(XTOL), it's reduced and oxidized forms, if it is a reversable redox
couple, why it works better in an alkaline solution, buffer systems etc.
...
I took a look at my library, and find that texts by George Eaton would
satisfy you - but there are many others. There's a leslie Strobel Photo
Science bok out there that has some interesting process equations,
and electron diagrams as well. A deeper understanding would require
some BASIC electrochemistry texts by Ralph Adams or Pete Kissinger,
but now that's hard core. It does give the chemist some insight and
thought. Epinephrine, or adrenaline, has a low enough oxidation
potentia; to be used as a developer, but I've not tried it! I did think of
Ascorbic or Citric acid salts a long while ago as alternatives to other
non-natural compounds, but it's just an interest of mine - not a job ;-)
I'll
leave that to Kodak....Other metals, like Copper in Cyanotypes can be
used as well - and "The Keepers of Light" is a nice light text as well.
Have fun with it!
Ed
