i assumed the omission of the rangefinder window was artistic
license, as well as self-timer, rewind lever, etc!  
in any case, even the M1 should have a window frame in
place of the rangewinder window, and the MDs would have no 
viewfinder at all.  i suppose spidey might also be using an m2.
