It is wild and if the weather is right ( lousy) the light is just fantastic. Going from Waterford to Cork.. go to Doolin. THE place for Irish traditional music... plan on staying later than closing at a pub.....that is when things get really going..... In / near Cork.... There is a small harbor.. I forget the name... but the best for gourmet food in Ireland and the small boat marina is quite pleasant. The Medevil Banquet is at Bunratty Castle, just south of Shannon Airport. The pub accross the street is also great. Durty Nelly's Pub at Bunratty is the place to be on a nice warm Sunday afternoon. The River Shannon is quite picturesque in Limerick, in an industrial sort of way. Walk the Clare side of the river from Jury's Hotel. Walk on the other side of the street ( away from ) Jury's for the nicest walk you can imagine. You will walk towards a Castle ( King James comes to mind, but I could be wrong).... Adare is south of Limerick ( towards Kerry) ... it si a very picturesque town of thatched cottages. There is a store there that sells Irish Dresden Ceramics. The owner is ( was) the owner of the factory and you might be able to score a trip to the factory if you ask nicely. It is north, towards Galway. Galway is a college town. You won;t have any trouble getting picturesque sights there. On the way from Limerick, go to Moran's by the Weir for a lunch. Great seafood ( means mollusks) at the pub. A local place as well as toursit. The middle of Ireland from Limerick to Dublin is full of peat bogs. Not pretty but the equipment is massive. Cliffs of Moher is nice, but touristy. There was a guy selling Irish tin whistles ( flutes ) that was pretty picturesque.... The moors around there and all the way back to Lisdoonvarna are pretty barren, and fodder for B+W film. If you get a chance to find the right day, there are still country market days. In Ennis, they sell cows, sheep and anything else you can imagine. the characters are mor than picturesque. In Limerick, the market is more refined ( no cows) but the vendors sell local cheese, etc. Talk nice, and a visit to one of their farms is a nice special outing.
