I'll jump in quickly to say that I got a USB 2 PCMIA card for my 
Powerbook and it transfers data from an external hard drive almost as 
fast as the same hard drive in firewire mode.  So for Macs it's either 
USB 2 or Firewire as USB 1 is too slow in my opinion.
