Assumption is, of course, that you own both an R8 or R9 and an M System I stopped buying R gear at R6...I use a Nikon D1 and my wife a Fuji S1 for digital SLRs. Would not cross my mind to wait another 18 months for the back...let alone pick up problem-prone white elephant like the R8...

If we are lucky sane heads will find a way to graft a back on our M cameras...maybe Tom A will cook up something for us!

What happens to the e-film patents if they never produced a product based on them? Mark

> Imagine this. You own both R and M cameras and lenses. For years
you've selected one or the other for a job for the system's features
and suitability, or when shooting for fun, whichever one you've felt
like using. The output has not been an issue. Getting prints for the
relys from slides without loss of quality has always been a hassle.
Putting up with what labs do to your negs and how they interpret them
has always been a pain.

Now you have a digital R back. Which camera do you choose when you
want to quickly email pics of the kids birthdays to their grandparents?
Which camera do you choose for pics of your new car to add to your
website, or shots of the family holiday? When you're asked to add the
kid that turned up late to the team photo you took earlier in the day?

So, when the tax return arrives and a new Leica lens is on your mind,
which system are you going to augment? "Hmm? Haven't used the M6s for
ages. Can't get Kodachrome! I'll buy that new APO-Summilux 1.4/80 ASPH
R, the one DLUGers have been raving about, the one that flipped Erwin's
lid, right orf. A 1.4/116 - how good is that?!"

Goodbye M system.

Rick.
