What amazes me is that none of our Mechanical LUGers with their machine
shops has devised an inexpensive alternative tool.

Beginning with the M4-2, Leica redesigned the rangefinder mechanism. For
the M3, M2, M4, M5, and M4P, the RF could be vertically aligned with a
screwdriver. For the M4-2, M6, M6 TTL, and M7, a special tool is needed
which Leica cheerfully sells but (and is this a surprise to you?) at a
hefty profit -- I believe these run around $200 or more. I have never had
a problem with vertical alignment on any of my M's, even those horrid M4's
I used to own, so I've never purchased one, but several LUG-nuts have them.
We have discussed this in detail over the years, and you can find a lot
more information in the archives.
