Subject: RE: [Leica] Where I see it - Film still King!

Every serious news photographer I know but one has switched to digital (and
it's almost impossible to compete if you don't) Many of the studio
photographers I know are ditching medium format for digital - have you seen
how many cheap Hasselblads there are out there now? And you can't give away
Mamiyas. I'd guess 95% of the full time working news shooters on the
NPPA-list are digital going by the conversations. Same listening to
Editorial Photographers UK.

Digital isn't a digital fad - it's here to stay and in much of the pro world
is going to be the major way of making photographs. There is no way film is
going to "win out in the end" Film will more and more become an alt.
process, with film users being like those of us who still use POP paper of
hand coat for platinum printing. In the end I wouldn't be surprised if most
of the film (and certainly B&W) comes form the likes of Efke in Croatia or
Forte and you have to buy it mail order from specialist stores.
