The demise of Polaroid is one of the great tragic - and instructive - stories in U.S. corporate history. As the originator of "instant photography," and as the company whose name was synonymous with "instant photography," Polaroid was ideally positioned to be in the vanguard of the rush to digital. Who would not have bought a Polaroid digital P&S - "Instant images from the people who invented instant imaging?"

But, alas, Polaroid failed to see the pixels on the wall and the rest is history. Perhaps, as someone suggested earlier, it all goes back to the death of Edwin Land. But whatever the cause, Polaroid missed the proverbial boat and it's name is now really nothing more than a footnote in photo history.

Just received a new issue of ³Studio Photography & Design² 6/2003 <www.spdonline.com>. Within its pages Fuji had a gorgeous 20²x30² fold out poster touting their fine grain fujichrome films and to my surprise - Fuifilm Instant Color Film (Fujifilm FP-100C) wich they describe as, ³a breakthrough in instant film technology. It gives you superb quality instant prints and superior color rendition in a wide range of temperatures with improved image stability and reliability. Available in both color and black and white, in 3 1/4x 4 1/4 and 4x5 packs.²
