As far as how to drink it goes . . . there are as many answers as folks who actually drink the stuff. I like mine on the rocks, no water. The melting ice will dilute it just enough for my taste. Purists nearly always say drink it neat. Well, down here in the south, I drink things that cool me off (that is why we have tea - the iced kind). Ok, so scotch doesn't cool you off that much but I like on the rocks just the same. Same with bourbon.

From the single malt afficianodos: What is the preferred method for
drinking it? Neat? Straight with just a few drops or maybe a teaspoon of
water? Ice is a no-no? This may sound trivial, but at 50 bucks a bottle,
it's serious. I generally use a small unscientific splash of water, but
is
there a better way?

Maybe what I should do is get some really good scotch, and drink a few,
and
then sit down and write next week's trivia quiz! That'd be a fun one,
wouldn't it? I can't even drink a 1/2 glass of wine without falling under
the table in hysterical laughter! ;-)

Sorry Kit, my wife doesn't take kindly to me teaching women to drink
hard liquor anymore. (I can't say why). But get yourself a bottle of 15
year old Linkwood Single Malt, unscrew the top, place the bottle to your
lips whilst tipping it back and swallow. If you civilized and not too
thirsty and a glass with lots of ice and no water.

You can build up to the really good stuff with practice and a bottle or
two of good Canadian Rye. Do this and you'll be ready to join John C. in
a Poetry Contest in no time.

Regards,

Greg
