The normally incredibly astute Joseph Codispoti opined...

"I have alway considered the 28 to be an odd choice, a compromise that
does not quite satisfy; like taking a sandwich to a banquet."

Prior to the arrival of the 28 Summicron for the M I shared your
culinary outlook. However, since acquiring that lens, the 28 shares the
"normal" designaton with my 35 Summilux ASPH, and probably gets even
more use than the Summilux. I have found that rather than being an
unsatisfactory compromise, the 28 offers the best of both worlds - if
held carefully, relatively normal perspective while providing a wide
view, while it can also provide distortion if one wants it.

Now I find the 24 to be another matter - it's often too wide a view, and
often not wide enough. ;-)
