The end of what, fer Gd's sake? At this point there is NO wholly
mechanical Leica being manufactured. So if that is your standard, the
end has come and gone already. And if it has, I find it odd that
screaming masses of photographers haven't started throwing themselves
from buildings yet.

Come on, guys, virtually everyone reports that the M7 shutter is even
quieter than the M6, particularly at low speeds. So it's not all
mechanical - either's my stove, my furnace, my computer, my
refrigerator, my TV., my car, my washing machine. BFD. You carry a spare
roll or two of film? Well carry a couple of spare batteries - it's
really pretty easy; their neither heavy nor bulky. You're going to miss
shots because the battery's going to die on you? Change the damn things
once and a while - I've been shooting now for about four years with
Nikon F100s - which are totally battery dependent, and I have not even
had to change batteries once on a job. Same thing with my M6s.

Be thankful that we can still get high-quality rangefinder film cameras
and stop the whining about the fact that some things in the 21st century
are different from the mid-20th. :-)

I feel the same way. Hope I'm wrong.
