Sorry Chris, I was being deliberately inflammatory.

I used the red filter because it was a very clear day with very clear air.
I wanted to exaggerate the contrast between light and shadow areas even more
to emphasize the intensity of the light.  Also, the cactuses were all
similar tones but different hues so I wanted to increase the apparent
difference in the colours.  I didn't use the red flter for the picture of my
son.

Oh.

Sorry, I can't contribute to that discussion.

I had hoped to learn how the red filter had improved the quality or 
otherwise of your pictures.
