Hi, I have been Leica user since 90's and new to this list.
In reading the Leica pocket book, 7th edition, I caculate Leica lens
production figures for each decade:

Decade number of lenses produced % of change from previous
decade
'33-39 382,500(not a complete decade)
'40-49 217,500(WWII interupted production)
'50-59 961,000
'60-69 667,700 -30.5%
'70-79 628,900 + 5.8%
'80-89 489,550 -22.2%
'90-99 379,846 -22.4%
In each of the past two decades, Leica had made 22% fewer lenses than the
previous. If this holds true for the next decase, Leica will only make
296,280 lenses between 2000 and 2009. The serial number at the end of 2009
is going to be 4,179,276.
Dennis Cheng.
