Based on my experience with my other Leica lenses, I am sure the Summilux is far superior also in price. The Canon can be purchased for around $350 on Ebay. I just acquired a late pre asph 35mm Summicron and may find it suits me well. I shoot indoor scenes using a bean bag for support with ISO 125 film. I probably do not need speed faster than f2.0. I will compare my Summicron and my Canon this may in Italy.
