Hi Steve,

If by "normal" development you mean what you find in the data sheets or 
in the Massive Development Chart on http://www.digitaltruth.com/, then I 
would say that it should be only a starting point for your own testing. 
For Neopan 1600 and XTOL 1+3 the chart suggests 13 minutes at 20C when 
the film is rated at 1600; I have found that 12.5 minutes is better for 
me. Similarly, the time for Ilford Delta 100 in XTOL 1+3 is 15.5 
minutes, and applying the Kodak correction in the data sheet yields 
something like 18 minutes, but I have found 15 or even 14.5 minutes to 
give me much better results. My tendency to prefer shorter times is 
obviously a function of the fact that I use a Jobo processor. The point 
though is, that with B&W film there really is no substitute for doing 
your own testing and deciding for yourself what is the best developing 
regime given the way you shoot.
