you can't paint a topic like this with a very broad brush. people are
different all over the place. some people, muslim or not, women or men, in
the u.s. or abroad don't want their picture taken some don't mind and some
people love it. i've photographed muslim women in the u.s. and in egypt.
just ask first. if they don't want to be photographed, they'll let you know.

it also depends a lot on how close you are to a big city. big cities, i've
found, are pretty much the same wherever they are in the world. the women in
cario are more apt to wear jeans, not cover their hair, and read Vogue than
the women somewhere in backwater Yemin.

just don't act like an idiot and you'll be fine.
