This may help soften the old grease, and allow you to work it back and forth and loosen it up. Over on the IDCC many collectors ascribe wonderful restorative powers to a very small amount of lighter fluid applied to the stubborn helicoid in loosening up old grease. In the long run a thorough cleaning is probably the best approach for another 30 or 40 years of service.
