Frank:

I had one particular lens that seemed to shed its cap.  I eventually
bought a LensKeeper (2?).  One end went on the cap, and the other had a
rubber-band like gizmo that went around the lens barrel.  I think it
cost about $2 USD.  They also make a version (LensKeeper 1) for fixed
mount cameras, so you want the "2" version.
