Interesting terminology, Sonny - "heats."

Seriously though...."Murray The K," a leading disc jockey in NYC during
the "golden age of Rock 'N Roll" - the self-proclaimed "Fifth Beatle" -
used to include submarine race references in his nightly patter....

Of course, it is hard to actually *watch* a submarine race, but there
are things you can do between heats.
