I agree with Frank here. The Ebay historical prices may not be rational.
They may depend on marketing, auction timing, auction picture quality, etc.
KEH or similar retail, used equipment pricing is typically significantly
higher for many items, especially Leica. If the dealer is a Leica
specialist, even higher. You're paying for their reputation, name,
convenience, warranty, etc. Much private sale pricing, like here on the
list is closer to Ebay pricing, but certain people may give list members a
break; or they may feel that the fanatical list readers will pay a premium.

"Book prices" are highly dependent on condition, but are a good starting
point too. I've used them successfully as a reference point for an unusual
item.

I typically research a new item for 2 weeks prior to offering it for sale,
that gives me ~5 weeks of Ebay time to find comparable items.

In the end, the price you pay is dependant on how bad you want the item.

I'd budget $5-800 for a good pre-asph 35/2 Summicron. Higher for Wetzlar.
Get one with the hood if you can, as they're tough to find. The square
hood's cap is ~$40 itself new.

Pay no attention to online or book s on prices... they are ridiculous. Look
on EBay and see what your lens would and HAS BROUGHT recently. That is the
overall worldwide market price. Locally, there are variations especially if
you are at a camera swap meet where the prices can be pretty wrong.

The other side of the question is that the price is dependent on the
motivation of both the buyer and the seller.....

Any price guides out there for used leica glass?
I figured this was a better question than "whats a 35 'cron pre-asph, mint
