I would have to differ on this point. Granted, that old drivel about the
person making the difference might have an impact, but it mostly stands
at odds with the whole concept of modern industrial practises. Equipment
is produced for an individual, or a community, to be used without the
need of the trained craftman, or of his or hers expertise. A cursory
overview of the industrial period would show that to be the case, and
much material, academic and anecdotal, has been generated to address
that impact. 
Take a little jaunt of exploration and you will be amazed at what's out
there concerning this issue.
