I think I used the incident and confirm with the camera meter. Most of my scenic stuff is shot using an incident meter if I can get the meter into the same light as falling on the subject. Otherwise I use the spot. It there is white, I meter off the white and open up 1 1/2 stops. If there is a mid tone. I will meter off that. I very seldom shoot slides on auto.
