Subject: [Leica] 50 years of ELCAN (E Leitz Canada) - lets hear it for the Nocti

Just found out this year is the 50th year of ELCAN, founded in Midland,
Ontario, Canada in 1952 by E Leiz Wetzlar.

Although sold off in 1990 (now still know as ELCAN but part of Rayethon
and making all sorts of optics for sattelites, missiles and sights for
the M16 (C18?)) they still make lenses for Leica.

Remember folks, what many consider the best Leica lens and most
superlative peices of German glass - the f1 Noctilux - is still made
north of the border in Midland,Ontario, where it was conceived and
born... :-)
