I second this wholeheartedly. It's more about a small-scale cultural
revolution and how it was catalyxed by a bunch of kids from broken homes
that were adopted by a surfboard maker than it is about skateboarding
tricks. After sitting through it spellbound, all I could say was "Whoa!", I
wish I made that!

I'm a surfer and like the big, cold waves of the Washington coast but some
of the footage in this doc made my nether regions contract. The B&W
photography was really stunning too.

Anyone interested in documentary filmmaking should check out the movie
Dogtown and Z-Boys. It chronicles the birth of the hardcore skateboarding
scene in Santa Monica, CA in the 70s. Mixed with vintage stills and film
footage are recent interviews with the participants. I'm not into
skateboarding but it totally sucked me in. Which is what any good
documentary should do. Highly recommended. It's now out on DVD so get down
to the local Blockbuster and check it out. Then you'll want a 12mm CV lens
for that M6.
