It's the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Salute,
aka the Church of St. Mary of Health and Salvation,
built by the Venetians in the mid 1600s as a sacrifice
to the Virgin Mary for delivering them from the plague.
There is a commemorative festival in November,
when the quality of autumnal light on the lagoon
is specially misty and evocative.
