I would like to point out that people have been predicting the demise of
the Leica SLR line for at least the past 25 years. If it wasn't killed off
in the '70s, I don't think its going to be killed off now.

I happen to love my R8, since I use it primarily with the longer and
heavier lenses for which the body is a good match. But there are
definitely those who think the body is too large or too heavy. If a smaller
body will sell to that group, then it is a smart thing for Leica to do.

The rumor that went around when the R6.2 was cancelled was that Leica had
simply run out of body shells which, the story went, were supplied by
Minolta. If that was the only reason for the cancellation and if the camera
was still selling reasonably well, then a replacement would make sense.
