The crime rate in the USA are "sky high" compared to Western Europe and European Union. Spec violent crimes involving firearms - witch are rarely heard of in most of European countries. The chances to survive an automobile breakdown on a highway in LA compared to lets say in Berlin (Germany) is ridiculous. In LA you will be in real danger (spec if you have a expensive car) - in Berlin the only risk is to be hit by another car when you stop on the "autobahn"...
