Did you lose the cover or did it break (sorry missed the details in the
original post)? If the cover broke it should be covered but if you lost it
thatıs a no go for the Passport. Lost is like theft, there is no camera or
part to look at.  

I mean for all Leica knows some one broke into your hotel, went through all
you belongings, found your M, said "THERE IT IS!!!", removed the battery
cover, slid it into his pocket, put the camera back exactly where he/she
found it, quietly slips back out of your room and wipes their fingerprints
off the doorknob...

It could happen you know...
