The fact that it is a bit too pat - and my wife reacted to it as you did -
may have more than a little to do with the fact that it is based on what my
kids call a 'graphic novel,' and I called a comic book. The story line - and
dialogue - are extremely spare.

I agree that the Road to Perdition was visually stunning, but overall
left me cold. Some of the story is a bit too pat (I don't want to say
what, but I think most people who've seen it know), there's very little
drama to the ordeal, and it just didn't really engage me at all.

I like Roger Ebert's line on the movie - I admired it, but I'm not sure
I really liked the movie.

Now Mendes' "American Beauty," on the other hand, ranks in my top 5 of
the past ten years.
