I wouldn't call it "blotchy" just very grainy with
subtle horizontal patterns to the grain...

I have generally not been sharpening at all.. I
usually tweak the levels and curves and sometimes to
an "auto color" if it is an Ektachrome original
because they tend to be a bit blue for my taste.
