Having been a WASP all of my life, I am learning what it is like to be
arbitrarily hassled for no apparent reason. Airport security measures have
given me a sense of what it is like to be "profiled" even though it is
random. I find myself more empathetic for those non-WASPS who have had to
put up with it.

There's an alternative to air, and it is called Amtrack. And it is only 7
times more expensive and 12 times more time-consuming than plane travel. In
1974, I flew home to San Diego to see my parents. It cost me $550 on Delta.
Twenty eight years later, I just bought a ticket from Southwest Airlines to
take the same trip. $238.

A no-brainer for me.
