Nah, Andrew, freelancing on the battlefield don't work. Even George
Washington himself knew that on his foray to Fort Pitt in 1757. An officer
responding with imagination to unexpected moves by the other side can work,
but only if one's troops have the discipline to follow.

Freelancing on the battlefield means one of three things: a Congressional
Medal of Honor-Victoria Cross-Croix de Guerre or court martial or death,
almost always one of the last two.

Any similarity between armed combat and futbol is strictly coincidental. The
consequences are too different. People who joke about it just haven't been
there.
