Here's one more voice saying it's not normal. That said, it doesn't surprise me that you're seeing some kind of mechanical problem with this lens. I'm on my third one. The first two had detent problems - one on the aperture ring, one on the focal length selector ring. My current one functions properly. I suspect that the mechanical complexity of the lens is its Achilles heel. The optical quality is certainly up to Leica's standards.
