In a nutshell, the 3051 will work TTL (all functions) with the R8 and M6TTL, and M7 - but you are unable to use HSS (High Speed Synch) mode. The newer 3502 adapter will work with the R8, M6TTL (just like the 3501) BUT will also be fully compatible with the M7's HSS when used with the 50MZ-3 flash unit. I just coincidentally picked up a 3502 adapter today (I had it on order while I was using the older adapter on the MZ50-3) The newer one is essentially the same, except it has a 'hatch' door on the back that covers the controls - which are fewer and a bit easier to use. One thing however - I am unhappy using the big flash on the M6TTL - M7, as it is very large and top heavy, even with the motor attached. It tends to want to 'flop' forward and hang flash down on the strap. I'm not a huge 'M camera with flash' person, and only use it for fill when absolutely needed. Even then I use a Nikon off camera cord - and hold the flash to the side. If you already have the 3501, and only use flash once in a blue moon, or on an R8, you might just as well save your money! Have fun!
