If she asks about that new lense, body, light meter, etc, just reply with "Oh, that old thing? I've had that since..., you know, I don't remeber when. So hon(ey), can I scub the kitchen floor for you?" BTW, if you have enough "stuff" she won't even notice. The problem is when you only have one camera and one lense and then something else shows up.
